Abandoned Cinemas

Abandoned Cinemas mark a point in history... They are reminders of social and lifestyle changes through the years. Transition from public spaces to more private ones.

Movie theaters, which were once an excuse for gatherings and other friendly meetings, have lost their function as before. Increases in accessibility and possibilities for individuals, in addition to limitations in movie choices, censorship and city traffic etc have gradually pushed groups of friends and cinema lovers to spaces that are more private and turned movie theaters into unused and abandoned places.

This collection started from Lalehzar street in Tehran and later expanded to other parts of the city and is planned to be continued around the world.
It demonstrates the cultural behavioral shift that happened through a short period of 50 years and  indicates, in my opinion, other changes that are happening or may happen in the future.
